Chapter – 5 : Survival
Love vs Vengeance : Chapter – 5
That evening, Alina lay in her room, lost in sorrow, slowly drifting into sleep.
Just then, her elder sister, Jolie, gently opened the door and stepped inside.
“Hey, Alina, wake up,” Jolie said softly. But Alina, still drowning in her grief, ignored her and turned away.
Alina slowly opened her eyes and asked, “What is it, Sister?”
“Nothing much, Alina. I need to go to the market. I thought you might come along,” Jolie said.
“Sister, I’m really tired. Don’t mind, but I can’t come. If needed, let’s go in the morning,” Alina replied.
“No, Alina. I have to leave for the hostel tomorrow. So, I have to go now. It’s okay. You take rest. I’m leaving,” Jolie said, heading out. She turned back and asked, “Do you need anything, Alina?”
“No, Sister. Nothing. Bye,” Alina said.
Jolie smiled and left the room. Their mother, seeing Jolie leaving, said, “Jolie, it’s getting dark. You can go tomorrow.”
“It’s okay, Amma,” Jolie replied with a smile as she left.
Hearing all this from her room, Alina suddenly felt anxious. Her heart started beating fast, and sweat formed on her forehead. She didn’t understand why she felt this way. Slowly, she walked toward the window and opened it.
Outside, Jolie walked to her car and opened the door. In the garden, water droplets dripped from the leaves of the plants that had just been watered. The setting sun’s reddish light made those droplets look like blood.
Jolie left for the market, bought what she needed, and then stopped by a nearby temple. She prayed, gave alms to orphans, and then returned to her car.
Just as she reached her car, she realized that one of the tires had punctured.
“Oh God! Why this trouble now?” she muttered.
It was already dark, and the area was deserted. She looked around nervously. Just then, an auto-rickshaw stopped near her.
“Madam, where do you want to go?” the driver asked.
Jolie ignored him and stepped aside.
“Madam, be careful at this hour,” the driver said before driving away.
Jolie, still worried, took out her phone to call home.
In the distance, the temple bells rang, breaking the silence.
Just then, she heard a voice call her name, “Jolie…”
She turned around slowly.
A man stood a few feet away from her.
“Who are you?” she asked, her voice trembling.
“Have you forgotten me already?” he said.
“Hey! Who are you? Speak properly!” Jolie demanded. The voice seemed familiar to her.
As she cautiously stepped closer, fear gripping her heart, she gasped.
“It’s me… Oliver,” he said, stepping out of the shadows.
“Oliver! You’ve already ruined my sister’s life. You destroyed the lives of innocent William and Bella. You will never find peace! No one may have seen your sins, but God is watching you! Your day of punishment will come!” Jolie shouted.
Oliver smirked. “Wow, Jolie! You are braver than your sister. But now, it’s time for you to join them.”
“You disgusting man!” Jolie raised her hand to slap him.
“Wait, wait, darling!” Oliver sneered. “God, Bella’s ghost, and William… they all need to hear your lectures. Why don’t you join them?” He pulled out a knife.
Jolie glared at him. “Do you think I’ll be scared of your knife? I’ll expose you!” She quickly took out her phone to call the police.
But before she could dial, Oliver’s men grabbed her, covering her mouth and throwing her into a car.
She struggled, but they held her down.
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
The car reached a traffic signal.
Jolie turned her head to the side and saw her father sitting in another car nearby.
Desperately, she banged on the car window, trying to get his attention.
Her father looked in her direction, but at that moment, Oliver’s men covered her face, preventing her from being seen.
The car sped toward an abandoned place.
Jolie was bleeding from her lips—they had beaten her.
She screamed and ran as soon as they opened the door, but the men chased after her.
“Anna! Please don’t harm me! That man is evil! Let me go!” she cried while running.
She screamed for help, but no one was around.
As she ran, she tripped over a rock and fell. Before she could get up, the goons grabbed her.
“Anna, please! I want to live! I want to make my parents proud! Please let me go!” she begged, falling at their feet, crying.
Just then, Oliver walked toward her, laughing.
“Oliver, please! You’ve done enough! Let me go!” Jolie pleaded.
Oliver smirked. “Why would I let you go after bringing you all this way? I will free you, but not in this world… in the afterlife!”
His men laughed.
“No, Oliver! Please! I haven’t done anything wrong!” she sobbed.
“Oh, really? Your sister insulted me in front of the whole college! She and William ruined my life! I will take revenge!” he shouted.
One of the goons said, “Enough talking, boss. Let’s finish this.”
“Yeah, finish it,” another agreed.
The men laughed again.
Jolie closed her eyes, praying, “Oh God! Why have you abandoned me among these monsters?”
Oliver pulled out a sharp knife and raised it to stab her.
Just as he was about to strike, Jolie gathered all her strength, pushed the men away, bit one of them, and ran.
“Catch her!” Oliver roared in anger.
He picked up a metal rod and threw it at her.
The rod hit Jolie hard, and she stumbled.
“Aahhh!” she screamed, falling to the ground.
But the will to live burned inside her. She gritted her teeth, got up, and kept running.
She saw some bushes ahead and jumped into them, hiding.
Oliver and his men arrived, looking around.
“Where did she go?” Oliver fumed.
“She couldn’t have gone far,” one of his men said.
“Use the phone’s flashlight! Search everywhere!” Oliver ordered.
They searched the area, determined not to let her escape.
Jolie hid, listening to their footsteps and voices.
Tears streamed down her face as memories of her family and friends flashed before her eyes.
She looked up at the sky and thought, God, is this really the end of my life?
Just then, Oliver shouted, “Find her! She must not escape!” The search continued…
