Love vs Vengeance : Chapter 4 – Devastating

Time Passes By… A Few Days Later…

Oliver was at home, chatting with his best friend, Jasmine. (They shared a bond like that of siblings.)

“Hey Oliver, why haven’t you been chatting properly these days?” asked Jasmine.

“It’s nothing, Anu… Things aren’t good here…” Oliver replied, still talking about William and Bella’s death.

After a while, the doorbell rang.

Oliver went downstairs to check.

Outside, a group of police officers stood waiting. Just then, Oliver’s parents also arrived. The police arrested Oliver and took him away.

Once inside the jail, they started beating him.

“Sir, what have I done? Why did you arrest me?” Oliver asked.

Inspector Smith entered.

“Oliver, tell me properly about Bella and William,” he demanded.

“Sir, are you crazy? Bella died, and she even left a letter explaining everything!” Oliver argued.

“Yes, we believed that at first… but…” Smith said, pausing as a girl named Alina stepped forward.

Oliver was shocked to see Alina.

“Alina, tell them! I didn’t do anything!” Oliver pleaded.

“Listen, Oliver. I didn’t like how you always followed me around, but we still trusted you as a friend. I never thought you would betray that trust like this…” Alina said in anger.

“Just tell us what happened that day,” she continued.

“Alina, you’re misunderstanding me. Where’s the proof that I did all this?” Oliver questioned.

Smith smirked.

“You want proof? Alright, I’ll tell you what we know…” he said.

Smith continued, “Alina told us everything. She rejected your love, and you couldn’t handle it. You wanted revenge. So, on Bella’s birthday, you killed William without Bella knowing and buried him right there. Bella always suspected you. She told me many times that you were a bad person and that you had done something. Out of revenge, you killed Bella and made it look like a suicide. You framed her for William’s death to escape punishment yourself.”

Oliver laughed.

The officers kept beating him.

“Speak up! You won’t talk normally, so we’ll show you third-degree treatment!” Smith threatened.

Oliver suddenly smirked and said, “Sir, yes! I killed them both and even wrote the suicide letter!”

Alina burst into tears, looking at him in disgust.

“Hey, I’ll tell you everything!” Smith turned to Alina.

“Alina, tell me what happened the day before Bella’s so-called suicide,” he asked.

Alina began, “That morning, I was sitting in Green Garden, thinking about William, when Bella called me.”

Flashback:

“Tell me, Bella,” Alina answered.

“Nothing, Alina… I don’t know how to ask you this,” Bella hesitated.

“Come on, Bella, just say it,” Alina encouraged.

“Well… My parents aren’t home. I was cutting fruits and accidentally sliced my hand. Then, while cooking, I was thinking about something and burned my hand badly. It’s really painful. I can’t even hold anything. I can’t drive either… Can you come over?” Bella asked.

“Of course, I’ll come!” Alina reassured her.

Alina took her sister along since she was bored at home, and they both spent the evening at Bella’s house. They had planned to stay the night, but because of the situation with William, they decided to leave.

They even took photos together that day.

Bella could barely hold her phone, let alone write a suicide letter so neatly. In that condition, how could she have written anything at all?” Alina cried.

Oliver smirked.

“So what? Are you saying I killed her?” he taunted.

“Yes! You killed her!” Smith declared.

Just then, the phone in the police station rang.

A constable picked it up.

“Sir, it’s for you. A senior officer is on the line,” he informed Smith.

Smith answered the call.

“Hello, Smith. What the hell have you done?” the officer on the other side asked.

“Sir, what did I do?” Smith asked in confusion.

Oliver and Alina watched the conversation unfold.

“Listen, Smith. Release that boy immediately. His family is close to me,” the officer ordered.

“But sir, do you know what he did—” Smith started to explain.

“I don’t care what he did. Just let him go,” the officer interrupted and hung up.

Smith clenched his jaw in anger and slammed the phone down.

Alina, confused and desperate, asked, “What happened, sir?”

Smith sighed.

“What else, Alina? This is how things work… That criminal will be set free,” Smith said bitterly.

“Letting him go?! Are you serious?! He killed them! He deserves punishment!” Alina protested.

Smith shook his head.

“We can’t do anything, Alina. I’m sorry…” he said.

The police unlocked Oliver’s cell and brought him out.

Alina collapsed to the ground, sobbing.

Her parents and sister arrived and tried to console her.

Oliver smirked as he walked out of the station, glancing back at her.

“What kind of world is this? He killed two people and is walking away happily… There is no justice… What kind of god allows this?” Alina cried.

The Next Morning

Wrapped in a warm blanket, Alina sat on the sofa, lost in thought about her life.

Her sister approached with a cup of coffee and turned on the TV.

News played in the background.

Alina’s sister, seeing her pain, tried to comfort her.

“Alina… How long will you be like this?” she asked, hugging her.

Alina broke down.

“Sis, you always talk about God, visiting temples and praying… But where is He now? Why is He just watching from above? Why doesn’t He do something?” Alina wept.

Her sister, feeling helpless, had no words.

Just then, breaking news flashed on TV:

“The William case has finally been solved. The truth behind his disappearance has come to light. His so-called best friend Bella, driven by ego and stubbornness, killed him. Out of fear, she then took her own life.”

Alina gasped.

“Look, sis! Look at this nonsense!” she cried as her parents entered the room, their faces filled with sorrow.

“Dad, Bella didn’t do anything! That monster Oliver did everything! He’s walking free while Bella’s name is being dragged through the mud!” Alina sobbed.

Her mother hugged her.

“Alina, Bella and William are in a better place now. If you keep crying, their souls will be in pain too,” she said gently.

That Evening

Sitting in the garden, Alina gazed up at the sky, her eyes filled with tears.

“You both left me… You both died for my sake… You took the truth with you,” she whispered.

Memories of Bella and William flashed before her eyes.

Then, she suddenly recalled how Oliver had smirked while leaving the police station.

Her eyes turned red with rage.

“Oliver, I won’t let you get away with this!” she vowed.

Will Alina expose Oliver’s crime?
